When Jamie first arrived at The Carpenter’s Arms, he had been living with addiction for over two decades. Today, after six months in our programme, Jamie is unrecognisable from the man who first walked through our doors.
“I started off at the age of 14 smoking cannabis. I then got into clubbing and started taking speed and ecstasy. I had a little break for about two years when I got engaged, but eventually that came to an end.
I was lonely and desperate, so I started doing harder drugs to block out the pain and take away the boredom. That carried on for 20 years. I then discovered crack cocaine, which led me to be addicted to both. It was unmanageable, and I felt like I was going nowhere. Life had hit rock bottom.
Then one day, my sister told me about The Carpenter’s Arms. I thought I’d give it a try, as I’d never tried to give up drugs before.
Since I’ve been at The Carpenter’s Arms, I have my family back. I have a new meaning of life and feel much more confident. I’ve put on weight and feel healthy. My mental health has improved dramatically. I’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and I’m now able to manage the symptoms without using drugs.
In the future, I plan to go on holiday with my family, take up carp fishing, and keep going to church. Having been in the programme for six months, I’ll be returning to Leicester to live in a shared house and start my new life — which I’m very excited to do.
I thank everyone at The Carpenter’s Arms who have helped me through the programme and strongly recommend it to anyone who’s lost in addiction.”
We’re incredibly proud of everything Jamie has achieved and grateful for the chance to walk alongside on his journey to recovery.
