The Carpenter’s Arms was amongst the winners announced at East Midlands Chamber’s Leicestershire Business Awards 2025/26, which took place at King Power Stadium, Leicester on 26 February 2026.

The charity won the Commitment to People Award, sponsored by De Montfort University. The award recognises the charity’s firm commitment to people development and the implementation and promotion of a learning and development (L&D) culture – both for residents in its care and for its staff.
The charity supports residents to re-integrate into society through support sessions, group work, employability support and leisure activities. Key to making that happen are the staff and volunteers who benefit from learning and development far beyond what is statutorily required for the sector, from technical skills and compliance to leadership, soft skills and, most recently, accredited therapy training.
Richard Spence, CEO The Carpenter’s Arms, said:
“Without the opportunity to learn, our residents will never overcome addiction, nor sustain a job, roof over their head or relationships with loved ones. L&D is integral to their recovery but success looks different for each person. It’s important that our staff and volunteers can readily adapt to changing demands, particularly when it comes to understanding mental health and dual diagnosis. That’s why we continually invest in the L&D of our team.
“The collective learning and development of this incredible band of individuals is the force that fights drug and alcohol addiction and the associated devastation of homelessness, crime and family breakdown. It significantly improves resident employability and that’s an outcome we all benefit from. I’m thrilled that East Midlands Chamber have recognised our commitment to people through this award.”
