The installation of our new, all-weather gym is helping men battling addiction to invest in their physical health.
The new gym building, located in the garden of our Wharncliffe Road property in Loughborough, has been made possible through the support of the Screwfix Foundation which supports projects that fix, repair, maintain and improved properties and community facilities in the UK. As is often the case, our wider supporters stepped in to add weight to the project. Gym and fitness equipment retailer Parkway Fitness kindly donated mats, a bench press and weights and an exercise bike. Hinckley-based leisure operator Everyone Active, who have supported the charity on various occasions through re-build after a fire in March, also donated ten sets of dumbbells.
The building was officially opened on Friday, 22 November by Deputy Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr David Northage who also took the opportunity to learn more from staff and residents about our approach to recovery.
Richard Spence, CEO The Carpenter’s Arms, said:
“When men arrive at our Phase 1 ‘Stepping into Recovery’ centre at Wharncliffe Road, they are physically and emotionally broken. They need the opportunity to exercise, not only to improve their physical health but also to bring purpose to their day. We facilitate that by providing the men with access to low intensity exercise equipment which is best suited to their early stages of recovery when muscles are weak and energy levels low.
“The generosity of the Screwfix Foundation together with Parkway Fitness and Everyone Active means our Phase 1 residents can now to invest in both their physical and mental health come rain or shine!”
