The final stage of the residential recovery programme at The Carpenter’s Arms is the ‘recovery in action’ phase where our men implement all they’ve learned in a practical way and make steps to live independently. There is a lot to be done at this stage, from acquiring new employment-related skills to seeking work and accommodation.
IT offers a vital tool in helping men to re-enter society but, at the moment, their only access is via a shared laptop that was donated some three years ago. We think our Six Hills residential property (partway between Loughborough and Melton Mowbray) is the perfect location to set up a dedicated IT suite.
Our wish list
Three all-in-one HP PCs: £549 each.
Expected outcomes and outputs
Access to the PCs would empower residents to:
-
undertake online learning (including working towards their CSCS card (an important qualification for working in the Construction industry which can now be undertaken online);
-
build confidence in using software such as Word and Excel;
-
work on their CVs;
-
search for jobs and attend online interviews; and
-
find their next home.
